Community Guidelines

Sangh works because neighbors help neighbors. Keep it that way:

  • Be kind and respectful. No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks.
  • Be honest. Only recommend providers you genuinely trust. No fake reviews, ratings, or endorsements.
  • Stay on topic & local. Post to the right group; keep Near Me posts relevant to that town.
  • No spam or solicitation. Vendor announcements are for verified provider owners about their own business.
  • Protect privacy. Don’t share others’ personal details without consent.
  • Keep it lawful. Nothing illegal, fraudulent, or unsafe.
  • Adults only. You must be 18 or older to have an account.

Messaging other members

Direct messages are for genuine neighbor-to-neighbor and customer-to-business conversations. Don’t use them for cold sales pitches, chain messages, or repeated contact after someone has stopped replying.

If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, use Report conversation in the thread menu. Reporting also blocks the other member immediately, and a moderator reviews what was sent. If you believe you are in danger, contact your local authorities first— we can act on an account, but we can’t respond to an emergency.

We don’t read members’ private messages, and we’re not going to start — that trust is the point of the whole platform. What we do is act on what’s reported to us. So if someone uses a message to scam, threaten, or push something illegal, reporting it is the only way we’ll know. Please do.

What can’t be listed or sold

For-sale and free listings are for ordinary household goods. Don’t list:

  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives, or their parts
  • Drugs, drug paraphernalia, tobacco, vapes, or alcohol
  • Prescription medicines, supplements making medical claims, or medical devices
  • Live animals or animal products from protected species
  • Counterfeit, stolen, or recalled goods
  • Adult content or services
  • Human-made hazards: fireworks, hazardous chemicals, asbestos
  • Financial instruments, gift-card balances, cryptocurrency, or lottery tickets
  • Anything requiring a licence to transfer that you don’t hold
  • Rentals or job postings — those aren’t classifieds; use a Discussion post

Things people ask for that we can’t allow

These come up in diaspora communities, and they’re worth naming plainly rather than leaving to “keep it lawful”:

  • Sending money abroad.Don’t offer, advertise, or arrange money transfer to or from India or anywhere else — not in a post, not in a message. Moving other people’s money without a licence is a federal crime in the US, whatever rate you’re offering and however well you know the person. Use a licensed service.
  • Work that needs a licence, without one.Electrical, plumbing, gas, structural, medical, dental, childcare, legal and accounting work all require licences in New Jersey. Don’t advertise them unless you hold the licence, and don’t hire someone here who can’t show you theirs.
  • Immigration and legal advice.Sharing your own experience is welcome and useful. Advising someone on their visa, green card, or legal case is not — only a licensed attorney or an accredited representative can do that, and bad advice here can cost someone their status. Point people to a professional.
  • Medical advice and remedies.Recommend a doctor or a practitioner freely. Don’t diagnose, don’t prescribe, and don’t pass prescription medication between members.
  • Cash jobs arranged to avoid tax or employment rules. What you agree with a provider is between you, but Sangh isn’t a place to advertise working off the books.

If you’re not sure whether something crosses a line, ask us before you post it.

Meeting safely

Sangh introduces you to people; it doesn’t vouch for them. When you meet someone from a listing or a booking:

  • Meet in a public place in daylight where you can. Many police stations offer safe-exchange spots.
  • Bring someone with you, or tell a friend where you’re going and when you expect to be back.
  • Inspect an item before you pay, and pay in person — not in advance by transfer.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, leave. You don’t owe anyone the transaction.
  • Be cautious about inviting strangers into your home, and about going alone into theirs.

Sangh does not process payments, screen members for criminal history, or supervise meetings. Verification tiers tell you what we checked (an email, a phone, a business listing) — nothing more.

If something goes wrong

Report any post, reply, or conversation from its menu. Repeated or serious violations lead to content removal, a lower trust score, or account suspension. Urgent safety concerns: support@indianculture.com.
